I had been at Patrick’s for four days. Four uneventful, almost blissful days. He’d leave for a few hours, come back and keep me occupied with his sharp wit or his insatiable body.
It had been one of the best times of my life, at least when I managed to forget the reasons why I was here.
Something I managed to do more often than I would have thought possible. Maybe it was a trick of the mind, some attempt to shield myself, but I almost never thought of Patrick the mobster. Instead, I was almost fully immersed in Patrick the man.
The man currently exasperating me.
“Patrick, you’re being ridiculous,” I said, staring at him, wondering if maybe this time my words would have an effect.
“Think so, huh?” he said.
Apparently they did not.
I didn’t relent, though. This was too important.
“Patrick, I have something I need to take care of for a few hours. And then, because you’re so insistent, I’ll come back,” I said.
He wouldn’t buy it, but I had to try.
“You have something to do?” he asked.
I nodded.
“Fine. I’ll take you,” he said.
“That won’t be necessary,” I responded, trying to be as polite as I possibly could be.
“It is if you want to leave,” he said.
Another confirmation of how far politeness got me with Patrick Murphy.
“Patrick,” I said, glaring at him again, “don’t you understand how compromise works?”
“Nope,” he said.
I paused, breathed deep, trying to keep hold of my patience. I needed to do this, and it looked like the only way that would happen was if Patrick came too.
“Fine. When can we leave?” I asked through gritted teeth.
“Now,” he said, rising from the bed.
As always, when I saw his naked body, my heart gave an extra pound, that muscled back and chest, that single tattoo on his ribs endlessly fascinating. I hadn’t gotten used to him, didn’t know that I ever would. But the familiarity that was between us now gave the purely physical connection a depth that was both scary and thrilling.
I’d pretended I didn’t feel it, didn’t see it, and would do so until that feeling went away, certain it would as soon as I got a little space and distance from him.
Until then…
I rose as well and then circled the bed to stand in front of him. Instantly, he closed his arms around me, pulled my body flush against his. I kissed him as he held me, exploring his mouth, touching him wherever I could.
Yeah, this was a messed-up situation, one I didn’t fully understand yet, but this, the connection between me and him was crystal clear. A side effect but a good one, one I intended to enjoy as long as I could.
Patrick broke the kiss and then looked down at me, a trace of a smile playing on his lips. “You change your mind? Don’t need to go anywhere after all?” he asked.
“I’m tempted, but I have to do this,” I said.
“Then we’d better go,” he said, shifting so his burgeoning cock brushed my stomach.
“Yes, let’s go,” I said.
